No atmosphere, no frills, great pastrami. A lot of people are complaining about the price but can you really think of a time where deli wasn't $20+ a person? Manny's is $25 a head, Dillman's is $30+, Katz's in NY is $25, etc. It's just not as cheap of a meal as people have in their heads. A sandwich, drink and side at this place and you're still able to get out of there for under $20. If you're in the area and want something quick, try his Pastrami.

They did not deserved any stars. Ordered to go: 1.kishke w/ gravy- was burned to charcoal . Burning smell was unbearable - go to trash. 2.Mish Mosh - broth, matzo ball, noodles was ok but Kreplach was undercooked with "spam" taste, very dry. kasha with a chicken broth was disgusting - go to trash. They gave a big bag of toast. It's was smell like old spoiled oil - go trash $18 go to to trash. When I asked what is it Kreplach they can not answer...???

After years of eating in deli's I would have to say, take a pass. The lentil soup tasted like it was out of a can and the turkey pastrami was just what I could order at any grocery store. I had to gasp when the order taker asked me if I wanted lettuce, tomato and cucumber on my sandwich. WHAT? Also, the place was expensive for counter food. Unfortunately the employees behind the counter where speaking spanish so loudly that we couldn't enjoy the meal. So sorry because we could use a "real" deli in the area. Want good deli? Go to Max and Benny's in Northbrook. Should have walked away when we noticed that we were the only patrons.

Bottom line: food is DELICIOUS, service is fast, and the feel is truly deli-like. Solid 4.5+ / 5 stars My "mehs" are: prices are on the higher side ($10+ for sandwich); the order line flow is a bit awkward b/c if there is a line, it basically forms through the dining area; and us being first-timers - the menu was a bit much to read through at the register while hungry patrons are behind you getting impatient. I would rethink the Ordering/Dining flow if possible. Maybe throw some popular specials on the wall in big print like "Most Popular Item"... Ok, on to the yummy food! My wife had the corned beef on rye: it was fresh, plentiful (3+ inch stack), and delicious! My 4yo thoroughly enjoyed the Matzo Ball soup. While the matzo ball tasted like it was made with typical Manischewitz out of the box matzo meal, which is ok, but the broth tasted real to me. As in NOT from a can. I had the sweet and sour cabbage soup, and Bubbe's Brisketwich. The soup was a bit too sweet, and would have been even better if it had a chunk or two of meat in it :). But the absolute winner for me was the Brisketwich. The meat was tender, it had a sweet but savory reduction sauce on it which made it taste pretty fancy and was a pleasant surprise. We also tried the kugel with raisins. It was really great. But then again it had all the major "healthy foods" represented: pasta, sugar, eggs, raisins - you just can't go wrong with that! :) We also saw other orders like "the angler" (tuna melt) and bagels with cold cuts and lox - they all looked great! We will definitely be back!

Had the brisket which was very tasty and tender. My husband had the pastrami and that was very good and tender also. We added soup (split pea and chicken noodle) and both were very good. Wish they had ham carrots and potato in the split pea though. Large portions a little pricey but worth it. Will come back!

This is as good or better as any deli north of The Bagel. The meats are moist and warm. The portions are generous and, maybe the owner took the other comments to heart because the prices seem to be a buck or two lower than they say. The help is nice. The food is good and tasty. What's not to like? Well, the menu is really traditional and maybe now it's time to be a little more creative and ambitious. They've mastered the basics, let's see you bring a Zingerman's attitude to the North Shore. But, if you are in the mood for deli, this would be a good choice.

We keep coming back for more! We've been here several times and the food never disappoints. My favorite is the "Reubie" (corned beef, cole slaw, muenster cheese, and Russian dressing on rye bread). The combination of the cheese and Russian dressing really make this sandwich. We've also tried "The Warshawsky" (pastrami and corned beef surround a potato latke, covered in mustard, served on an onion roll). That is one monster of a sandwich! You can easily split this sandwich and still be satisfied. We've also had breakfast here. Silverberg's corned beef hash has to be the best I've ever had. It just melted in your mouth. Service is wonderful. The facilities are clean. Like everyone else, I had sticker shock when it came to the price, but you get what you pay for. I will pay more for a quality deli sandwich bursting with prime deli meat. And that's just what you'll find at Silverberg's. Keep up the good work guys!

If cost is a significant factor in determining where to eat, then Silverberg's Deli can be described in one word: overpriced. My husband & I paid $27 for 2 sandwiches and 2 fountain drinks. Based on the size of the sandwiches (not small but definitely not large) and the boring sides (a tiny cup of generic coleslaw swimming in mayo and a single pickle spear), we were quite disappointed. We also started mentally ticking off the nearby places where 2 people can get more food of equal or better quality for $8-9 less. Service was fine. The two order takers behind the counter patiently waited for us to make up our minds. We'll give Silverberg's an extra star for service and ambiance but that's it. We just can't get over the feeling that what you get is not worth the price you pay.

Visited around 6pm on a Thursday night. A couple tables were full...and I was able to order my take out without wait. I ordered a corned beef and pastrami on rye. the sandwich comes with two small pickle spears, and a a two-ounce side (i tried the potato salad). Well, I did not eat at the.restaurant , but ate at home, about 30 minutes.later. The meat too lean, making the sandwich very dry...and frankly bland. Also the sandwich costs about $10...which imo is slightly overpriced for the amount of meat. Doubtful.I will go.back, I will stick.with my favorite deli which is just a couple of miles north up Milwaukee Ave.

We had lunch there yesterday, and very happy we did! Hot meatloaf sandwich was tender and tasty, corned beef/pastrami sandwich was more than a healthy serving. Tons of items on the menu, breakfast anytime, nice folks working there. And pretty spic and span---all in all, I'd definitely recommend it.

The Area needs a good real Jewish deli and Silverberg's could be it. I had fried matzo with salami which was the best I ever had. My wife had a lox and onion omelette which was very good also. The place was very crowded but it was Sunday.

Power shopping in the surrounding Mall (it's Holiday Season) - I needed sustenance. I have been craving naughty Jewish food (I am an Integrative Nutritionista, and don't typically eat cheese, fried food, most fish etc - everything I ate today, of course). And being that I consider myself JewISH, .. & it's Hanukkah - I treated myself! So so glad I did! Oh the Matzo Ball Soup! ;-) The Lox & Bagle - incl the chive cream cheese! ;-) Phil is a big old Salami shirt - wearing Tuss! I love him, & appreciate the whole staff catering to my high maintenance ishness. And staying open late for me (hence the pic has no other patrons). Thank you, Gentlemen. Thank you Silverderg's Deli. This Italian / Puerto Rican Gal who grew up JewISH (shaking hand back & forth, in that ISHie kind of way) super appreciates you. Happy Hanukkah.

Corned Beef sandwich was delicious! My husband had the Reuben & mushroom barley soup both of which were very good. Cookies are good quality :-)

I'm not quite a fan, but could be. The classic NY Manhattan deli features the huge sandwich for 3. There's the normal sized deli sandwich and then there's the very large (Max's Northbrook). The sandwich here is large with a very large price. (The careful reader will get the drift of this). The sides are a thimble size of something. So because of the price/size differential three, not four stars. I had the reuben and it was made right, not soggy. The food is good, high quality. The servers were friendly and the owner sitting at the restaurant was a good character.

I echo the sentiment of many: good food, outrageous prices. I have eaten at quite a few delis; both on the North Shore and downtown. The only times I have seen prices this high, is when the sandwiches come out 2x(or bigger). We stopped in here for a quick late afternoon small meal with the kids. 2 kid meals and a sandwich to split for us came in at $30! Food: Kid hot dogs on challah rolls: Big hit, as my daughter loves challah Mac and Cheese: More like cheese soup with noodles. Big miss Brisket Sandwich: Very good, but for $12 was on the small side. Summary: I could see myself bypassing Jason's, Potbelly's, Panera, Corner Bakery, etc for a decent sandwich here, but unfortunately not at these prices. It good, but not $12 a sandwich good. Wish they could revisit their cost structure and competitively price their food. I just don't see myself coming in here again at these prices

I'm a huge fan of Brisket on rye and they do an excellent job with their brisket. I have tried several things on their menu and I keep coming back to the same thing. BRISKET. Their potato salad is your normal Jewish deli salad. I recommend this place if you are looking for a quick place for a deli sandwich.

It's probably not a *real* Jewish deli when there are ham, bacon, and sausage references on the menu. And, truthfully, the most Jewish thing happening in Silverberg's when we were there was the table with the two old women kvetching about everything. That said, it's a good stand-in for a Jewish deli. We stopped in for a late lunch on the recommendation of a colleague. We both had the hot corned beef on rye. The corned beef was sliced a bit thin for my preferences. As my husband said, their corned beef probably isn't good enough to stand on its own on a sandwich, but would be better on a Reuben or similar. We each got a side -- my fruit salad was what you'd expect. His macaroni salad was a little on the sweet side. It looks like we'd just missed some sort of rush because most of the tables in the dining area were still dirty. We popped back up to the counter before we left, where I gave my husband a crash course in Jewish pastries. We brought home a few ruggelach and pieces of mandel brat. We're saving the mandel brat for our morning coffee, but the ruggelach was excellent.

Came in yesterday for the first time. This place is pretty busy during lunch time. I had matza ball soup and a side of potato salad. I wish I didn't get the potato salad because the small matza ball soup is HUGE and comes with little bagel toasts. It was pretty yummy. Potato salad was OK but you get a ton of it, I've had better at Jewish delis. I do want to come back and try a few items, but I have to say it is very pricey, especially compared to the other Jewish delis in the area. A bagel and Lox is $11... A Ruben is like $10 or something... Definitely has to be a special occasion for me to come back and drop some cash. The cafe itself is clean, and the food seems fresh.

What a great gem in Vernon hills. I would highly recommend it if you're shopping in the area and want to avoid the chain fast food joints. Had a turkey club and daughter had a challah grilled cheese and ham. Everything was super fresh and tasted great. The coleslaw was some of the best I ever had. I will keep this in kind when I need some slaw for parties in the future. Highly recommend, a very clean and friendly neighborhood deli. It's a tough location as it's not easily seen from the street but I was happy we tried it.

Delicious home-made corned beef hash, our fried matzos were perfectly done, and the way they chunked and browned the salami made it one of the best I've ever had! They have a wide selection, nice seating, and excellent service. From a man who has seen many delis, this place is first rate.

The Restaurant has the best Tuna. The staff is nice.

First time in the deli, it was small in size, but the aroma was great because of it. Limited seating inside, with outside available with tables in direct sun without umbrellas on them. The deli counter is very small, with a very limited selection of the various salads. The corned beef and pastrami sandwiches were really good, but not that large in size, and the sides are barely visible and not a knock out in taste. We shared a small order of chopped liver, and can tell you with great authority it's not even close to the real thing...way, way to creamy. The prices are on the high side compared to other places close. Parking will always be an issue with that location, especially during the 11-130 time period. They have curbside pick up, but I shutter to think around lunch time how that's going to work, especially with the VH police prowling around all the time.

The boyfriend and I stopped here for lunch and shared a "Reubie" (corned beef, cole slaw, muenster cheese, and Russian dressing on rye bread). I'll admit, the food was good quality and well-made...but really, THIRTEEN DOLLARS for a sandwich?! Correct me if I'm wrong but the price of a deli sandwich isn't even that high in New York City. Let's see how long Silverberg's stays in business once Chick-fil-A opens in the same shopping center..

Excellent! First time here and the food was plentiful, flavorful and very fairly priced. I had the Salmon salad with cucumber salad side. Fresh! We definitely come back for lunch and their deli items!

My husband I met for lunch here a few weeks ago. It was our first time trying this deli. I had been wanting to try this place since it opened. It did not disappoint. I ordered a corned beef sandwich on a garlic bagel that tasted just like the typical Jewish deli's I love. My husband ordered their corned beef hash special. He thought it tasted great as well. My husband went up to the owner and complimented him on how great the food was as this was our first time there. He seemed really appreciative of the compliment. I ordered to go their chopped liver. I came home that night and my husband I shared it and ate it on Ritz Crackers. The taste was amazing! We will definitely be coming back here when I'm in need of my Jewish deli food fix!

I came here for lunch and it was relatively busy, but we received our food quickly. I ordered a regular bagel with Nova lox and chive cream cheese with a side of hashbrowns, which cost $13!! I felt the bagel was quite overpriced considering an entire pound of Nova at the grocery would be in the $20 range. I understand this is a restaurant, but I feel the bagel could have been $2-3 less expensive and they would still be making a profit. I would consider coming here, but most likely will order something different. Service was good and restaurant was clean.

I thought by the reviews this Deli was so good. I was very disappointed. Their Pastrami had no flavor and it was almost $11.00 for a sandwich. Their Kreplach were not made properly and had no taste. I won't be going back.

Clean, great customer service... Very helpful with items I was not sure about! I got the mighty Warshawsky... Nice latke between mounds of hot pastrami and corned beef on onion brioche. Meats had great flavor and moist. The potato latke fresh, and crispy on the outside (just how I like it). I WILL be coming back next time I'm in the area!

Great sandwiches! I had the grilled salami sandwich and it was just the perfect combination of flavor and size. The homemade chips were also great. The three cheese signature sandwich was also very good. You have the option to pick your own bread if you don't wish the one that comes with that menu item. Their cookies are also really good. Quick service and friendly staff.

  • Jennifer P.

I would go back... but I am not in a hurry. My husband had a Reuben and said it was really good... my tuna sandwich on challah was moist, but there wasn't a lot of flavor. And there were a LOT of eggs in it, which if I knew that, I wouldn't have ordered it. And most places, if you ask for a tuna sandwich, they put lettuce and tomato on it. Nothing here. Had to ask after it came out. Latke balls were good. Potato salad was ok. Really expensive. Lunch for two was $26. And I didn't really feel $9 for a very plain tuna sandwich was fair. I can go to Panera or Corner bakery and get it for $6... with toppings!

  • Magdaline V.

The food is ok but the atmosphere is not. You order at the counter and it is difficult to scan the menu while standing there. Especially with people behind you. The decor is plain and dull. Not the Jewish deli I hoped for. You spend plenty here and it doesn't cut it for me as a nice place to dine. Still favor Max's in Highland Park. If I want carryout, I can go to Burt's in Libertyville.

    (4)
  • Monique W.

Utterly disappointed in the matzo ball soup. The pastrami/corn beef sandwich on the other hand is great! The whole reason for coming was a hot bowl of delicious matzo ball soup on a cold winter day. so not sure if I'll return.

Stopped in for lunch after a business meeting nearby. My colleague and I both agreed that the lean corned beef sandwich on rye "hit the spot". The cole slaw with oil and vinegar was a nice change from the traditional cole slaw (which was also available). Yeah, prices were a bit steep at $12.00 for each sandwich, but we left full and satisfied. Service was quick, efficient and friendly. Giving it 3 stars for now until I try out other things on the menu. But if things continue to be like my experience today, I'll up to 4.

  • Tom P.

I was looking forward to eating here as I work nearby. I ordered The Angler, which was tuna on open faced challah bread with melted muenster on it. The sandwich was average. Not something worth raving about. I doubt I will go back to this place, specifically because of the $$. An open faced Tuna sandwich cost just over $10 with tax when all is said and done. There are numerous other deli's in the area that offer high quality food and at a fraction of that price. The service was good and everyone was very friendly but with the cost that high and so many other options in the area I am going to pass on this place from now on.

  • Carla H.

Went there for the first time. Menu looks good and I was really hoping they'd execute as a real Jewish deli. Got the mish mosh and they wouldn't add anything to the soup. It was not very good. Tasteless and I was real hungry. Also it bothered me a bit to see that the t-shirts said. "Do you like your salami...hard or soft". I get the joke but this is a place my grandma or kids would go to so I think that was a bit borderline on humor. At the end of the day... I'm not going back. I drive to Bagel and Bialy in BG...

  • Jeffrey M.

This place is amazing! Try the corned beef hash or hopple popple for breakfast. Great soup and sandwich for lunch and great lox and bagels too. People complaining about the price clearly don't understand paying a little for quality. The prices are NOT higher then New York Delis or any local delis such as Max and Bennys etc. Vernon Hills needed a good, authentic Jewish Deli and this place is just that. Silverbergs is great stuff!

  • Linda M.

Tried this place for the first time last night-roast beef on challah w/cucumber salad plus raspberry rugelah. All were excellent. The sandwich was piled high with meat. The bread was fresh. The salad had plenty of flavor without being vinegary. And the rugelah is a major problem - I can see myself driving to this place just to buy more. Not good for the hips but wonderful for the taste buds. Can't wait to return.
